My Writing Experience

I am trying to look back in time to remember the first time I had to face a writing task. I am trying very hard but to tell the truth, I do not remember being exposed much to writing until I was 16. It all started when I was doing one of the last levels at Cambridge English Institute, where I studied. I am almost sure that those were not good times for my writing.

Taking into account all the experience that I have gained since my first year at the Prof, I can now reflect upon my previous experience. Looking with a critical eye, I can certainly say that I had not been provided with enough tools and good pieces of advice on how to write in a successful and clear way before I started the Prof.

Entering the Prof was an eye-opener for me. Actually, attending the second year subjects was a before and after in my life. It was not that in first year the teachers had not taught us in a proper way, but I think that it has to do with a personal growth. There is always a critical moment in everyone’s life when you see the light and you start looking at life in a different way.

While attending Language II, I was encouraged to express my ideas and experiences in a way I had never been able to do before. I was able to approach writing in different ways, thinking before writing. I will always be grateful because I think that my Language II teacher was able  to pass on me all his knowledge and made me feel confident, enthusiastic and willing to write.

It is not that I consider myself a great writer who would deserve an award for what I write. I would not
dare say that if I wrote a book it would sell like hot cakes, but I think I am getting better with the passing of
time.  Of course not all the effort is on the teacher’s side but I believe it is key to encourage students and find
creative ways of helping them to soldier on and not give up writing.

Speakers' Corner

Some videos for you to enjoy!

Speakers' Corner

What can I say about this activity? I found it very interesting and even more when I knew I was going to London. Once I was there in Hyde Park, I was able to prove that we had done very well in our “performances”. We had put all our energy into it, some of the speeches had been very heated, the “hecklers” had reacted in the correct way.

During the activity, I felt very confident given that my speech was fluent and I was absolutely angry and mad about my topic. I had the same  feeling about my peers’ speeches. Some of them managed to make it more attractive by bringing posters and pictures.
I think we all deserve a big clap!!

My first post

For you to get to know me a little bit ... Here is my profile!

Hi all!

I'm Bárbara and I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1988 but although this is where my roots are I love travelling and I keep thinking where I would like to live in the future. I consider travelling as one of the most enjoyable things in life and it has been an eye-opener in my life. I've travelled  to many places, met lots of people who I still keep in contact  with. I consider myself a
live wire so I already know my next destination: Israel. I'm also planning to go to England or Australia when I finish my couse of studies - Hopefully in two years time!! :) I would also love to study to be an interpreter there.

I'm a very open-minded, energetic and hyperactive person who is constantly looking for new adventures and experiences. Whenever I have some free time I love to meet my friends, go out, listen to music or dance. I love going out to bars, nightclubs and meet people from all over the world. My philosophy of life
boils down to  "Seize the day".

    I am also a big
languages fan. Last year I started a Portuguese course and unfortunately I had to drop out due to lack of time. I would like to take it up soon  and after that I want to learn Frech and Italian.  I know a bit of Hebrew too, which is by the way, a very complicated but interesting language!

As you can see, I keep making plans for my near and distant future as regards travelling, studying and working. I've been teaching English in a private school for the last 5 years but I'm willing to devote my time and knowledge to teaching in needy schools. I am sure this would be one of the most rewarding
things I could ever do.

    In a few words, I am a
friendly and nice person so feel free to ask me anything you would like to know about me!

Looking forward to a year full of growth and great experiences!
Best,
Barbara.
